Velocity Credit Union holds 22nd Annual Scholarship Reception

Velocity Credit Union holds 22nd Annual Scholarship ReceptionVelocity Credit Union recently awarded more than $12,000 to 12 Austin-area high school graduates and college students pursuing a higher education. Over the past 22 years, the credit union has awarded more than $160,000 to 124 scholarship recipients.

The three high school graduates, who each received a $2,000 scholarship, were Summer Stark, a graduate of Bowie High School, who will attend the University of North Texas; Valentina Tovar, an Akins High School graduate, will attend Texas A&M University; and Gabriel Borg, a graduate of Dripping Springs High School, who plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin.

“These are all outstanding people and we know they are on their way to happy and successful futures,” said Debbie Mitchell, president/CEO, Velocity Credit Union.

In addition, the credit union awarded nine “ongoing” scholarships to help previous winners continue their college education. These scholarships were awarded to Kinzie Milare and Victoria Andrews, both from Texas Tech University; Alex Jaycox, who attends Texas State University; Maria Tovar from Texas A&M University; Thomas Massad, who attends Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.; Ariel Frazier of Lehigh University in Pennsylvania; Ricci Bostick, who attends Hampton University in Virginia; Jorge Reynoso from Denison University in Ohio; and Zach Santos, who attends the University of Texas in Austin.

Velocity Credit Union is one of the largest Austin area’s credit unions with five branches located in Austin and Round Rock.
