People Helping People
At Velocity, community engagement is a core commitment, not an afterthought. Rooted in Austin for over 75 years, we take our social responsibility seriously and are proud to give back to the communities that have trusted us for generations. We’re dedicated to being an active force for good, supporting the welfare of our neighbors and the region we call home.
Since our journey began, Velocity has supported the Greater Austin community by allocating resources to local organizations, emphasizing volunteerism and financial literacy. Our commitment to social responsibility remains unwavering. Our philanthropic pillars include:

College Scholarships
Each year, we recognize the leadership, academics, and community engagement of high school seniors through the Velocity Scholarship, which has awarded nearly $500,000 since its inception
2024 Dollars for Scholars:
- New Scholarships: $20,000 Awarded to four finalists in the amount of $5,000 each.
- Ongoing Scholarships: $21,000 Awarded to seven qualified continuing scholars in the amount of $3,000 each
Financial Education Workshops
The Credit Union has created a robust financial education curriculum, helping local businesses and non-profits teach their workforce the skills of the average consumer. The following workshops are available to our community:
- Build the Basics
- How to Manage Debt
- Identify Theft and Fraud
- Understanding Credit
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Inclusivity fosters leadership, a core value for us as our community is shaped by diverse identities and voices. Recognizing that our differences make us stronger is essential. We actively engage with these communities:
- Early childhood learning and development
- Affordable housing
- Animal shelters
- Hunger relief
- Legal advocacy for children
- Healthcare
Annual Scholarship Program
Each year, our Board of Directors awards three graduating seniors a $5,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice. An ongoing scholarship of $3,000 is available to previous years’ awardees. We have awarded nearly $300,000 in scholarships over the past 30+ years. Applications for next year will be available online and at any Velocity branch by mid-January.
Learn MoreCommunity & Civic Pride
We are proud to support organizations that help improve our members’ lives through financial education, safety, and wellness. Community partners we are product to support and participate in include: Austin Police Department and Central Texas Food Bank, as well as many other non-profits that help our members, their children, pets, and veterans.
We Go Local: The Arts and Small Business
We are proud supporters of the Austin Theatre Alliance and long-term corporate sponsor of the historic Paramount Theatre. Additionally, we help support local businesses through the Austin Independent Business Alliance (AIBA).
Donations/Sponsorships
We do our best to support worthy causes that benefit the community as a whole. We would like to be able to help everybody but, because we receive so many worthwhile requests, we must place some priorities and limits on our participation. Here are our guidelines for donations and sponsorships.
- We primarily focus our efforts where we feel we can provide the most impact: Community, Financial and Education Development, as well as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
- We must limit our support to causes that benefit many within the community, versus individual causes or needs.
- We will donate only where we believe we can have a meaningful impact.
Velocity Community Relations Overview
