Velocity Credit Union Awards Eight Local Students at 17th Annual Scholarship Ceremony

Velocity Credit Union recently presented its 17th Annual Velocity Credit Union Scholarship Awards. Eight scholarships were awarded to young credit union members; three to recent high school graduates and five to past winners who are continuing in college. To date, Velocity Credit Union has awarded over $110,000 in scholarships. The Royal G. Wilson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jozef Cortez, a graduate of Del Valle High School, who will attend Hardin Simmons University. The Limuel Hunter Scholarship was awarded to Cody Ramirez, a graduate of Elgin High School, who plans to attend St. Edward’s University. And, Michael Massad, Jr., a graduate of the Liberal Arts and Science Academy, was awarded the Tom Eaton Memorial Scholarship. Massad plans to study Environmental Science at Carleton College in Minnesota. The Robert Wilder Memorial Scholarships, to assist current college students, were awarded to five past winners: Carlos Galvan, who attends St. Edward’s University; Emily Jaso, from Sam Houston State University; Courtney Passow, who continues at Texas A&M; Josh Lechler, from Baylor University; and Katie Jaycox, who attends Northwestern University. “The Velocity Scholarship Program was created by our board of directors as a way to serve the community, our members, and their families. Each year I am more and more inspired by the accomplishments and the caliber of the young people in our membership,” said Debbie Mitchell, Velocity Credit Union president and CEO.
