Velocity Awards Scholarships at 20th Annual Event

Velocity Awards Scholarships at 20th Annual EventVelocity Credit Union awarded a total of $11,250 in scholarships to 10 Austin-area students at the 20th Annual Velocity Credit Union Scholarship Awards. ­Three scholarships were presented to recent high school graduates beginning their college education, and seven were presented to past winners who are currently in college. For the past two decades, the credit union has awarded 102 scholarships totaling more than $135,000.

This year, the recipient of the Royal G. Wilson Memorial Scholarship was Thomas Massad, a graduate of the Liberal Arts and Science Academy who will be attending Georgetown University in Washington D.C. this fall. Ricci Bostick, who graduated from McNeil High School, received the Tom Eaton Memorial Scholarship. Bostick is planning to pursue her education at Hampton University in Virginia. The final recipient was Aaron Sheckler, who was presented with the Limuel Hunter Scholarship. Sheckler is a graduate of Lehman High School and plans to attend Angelo State University.

Velocity’s board of directors also created the Robert Wilder Memorial Scholarship to assist past winners in continuing their education. This year, seven scholarships were awarded to the following previous year’s winners: Cody Ramirez from St. Edwards University; Ariel Frazier-Freeman, who attends Lehigh University; Victoria Andrews from Texas Tech University; Michael Massad, who attends Carleton College; Jasmine Washington from the University of Texas; Laura Longnecker from Texas A&M; and Maria Tovar, who attends Texas A&M.
