Our labor market is hot (and our temps are climbing, too!)

Looking for a job? You might be in the right place at the right time. According to the Wall Street Journal, Austin sports the #1 hottest labor market in the United States.

Noting Apple Inc.’s plan to build a new $1 billion campus here, the WSJ placed Austin above second-place San Jose., Calif. in labor force growth, job growth, and labor force participation. We fell behind in unemployment (our rate is 3-percent, while San Jose clocks in at 2.7) and wage growth (the California city’s was off the charts). Still, we’re number one! Woo-hoo!

Our ranking was due to Austin having the best average numbers among those five categories based on Labor Department statistics for 2018 vs. 2017. Moody Analytics conducted the study, which evaluated 53 U.S. metro areas with populations over 1 million.

All this as U.S jobless claims fell to a 49-year low.
