Community

Proud to support greater Austin – past, present and future.

Our Commitment to Community

Since our founding, Velocity Credit Union has been deeply rooted in the Greater Austin community. We’re more than a credit union—we’re a committed partner in building stronger communities—we’re here to uplift lives, invest in people, and drive positive change. Through volunteerism, philanthropy, education, and inclusion, we strive to make a lasting impact. Our commitment to social responsibility is guided by three philanthropic pillars:

Community Impact

Velocity’s strategic framework fosters “togetherness” through partnerships with local organizations, involving participation, donations, sponsorships and collaboration with non-profits.

Financial and Educational Development

As a financial institution, we foster community ties by promoting financial literacy and supporting higher education. This mission is exemplified through two unique initiatives:

College Scholarships

Each year, our Board of Directors awards three graduating seniors a $5,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice. An ongoing scholarship of $3,000 is available to previous years’ awardees. We have awarded over $500,000 in scholarships over the past 30+ years. Applications for next year will be available online and at any Velocity branch by mid-January.

Financial Education Workshops

We deliver accessible, practical financial education through social media and community channels. Topics include:

  • Budgeting and financial goal setting
  • Managing and reducing debt
  • Preventing identity theft and fraud
  • Understanding and improving credit
Community

Inclusion

As #OneTeam, we’re committed to fostering an inclusive culture where all employees feel seen, heard, and empowered. We celebrate diverse perspectives and recognize that our collective strength lies in our differences. Our impact extends to communities and causes that reflect our shared values, including:

  • Early childhood learning and development
  • Affordable housing
  • Animal shelters
  • Hunger relief
  • Legal advocacy for children
  • Healthcare
Community and Civic Pride

Community & Civic Pride

We are proud to support organizations that help improve our members’ lives through financial education, safety, and wellness. Community partners we are proud to support and participate in include: Austin Police Department and Central Texas Food Bank, as well as many other non-profits that help our members, their children, pets, and veterans.

We Go Local: The Arts and Small Business

We are proud supporters of the Austin Theatre Alliance and a long-term corporate sponsor of the historic Paramount Theatre. Additionally, we help support local businesses through the Austin Independent Business Alliance (AIBA).

Donations/Sponsorships

We’re committed to supporting causes that deliver meaningful benefits to the broader community. While we strive to help as many as possible, the volume of requests we receive requires us to set clear priorities and guidelines for donations and sponsorships.

  • Our primary areas of focus include community development, financial and educational advancement, and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • We prioritize support for organizations that serve groups or communities, rather than individual needs.
  • We contribute where we believe our involvement will make a measurable impact.

To maintain balance and neutrality, organizations tied directly to political affiliations or organized religions are not eligible.
