Community

At Velocity Credit Union, we view our community relations not as extracurricular, but as a commitment. We believe in the credit union philosophy of "people helping people," and one of our values is social responsibility. We were born and raised right here in Austin, and folks here have trusted us to meet their financial needs and to help them improve their financial lives for 60 years. We are proud to contribute to our community by actively participating as a member of the Austin family.

Civic Pride

We support organizations that help better the lives of our residents through financial literacy, safety and education. As a partner with the City of Austin, we participate in city-sponsored events with the Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, Austin Energy, as well as many private organizations whose goal is to help our residents. We are an active member of these Chambers of Commerce:

The Arts

Velocity Credit Union is a proud supporter of the Austin Theatre Alliance, and a long-time corporate sponsor of the historic Paramount and State Theatres.

Scholarship program

Every year, our Board of Directors awards three graduating seniors a $2,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choice. An ongoing scholarship of $750 is available to winners in previous years. This is the fourteenth year for our scholarship program, and to date we have awarded 49 scholarships totaling more than $82,000.

Donations/Sponsorships

We do our best to support worthy causes that benefit the community as a whole. Because we receive so many requests, and because so many are deserving, we must place some priorities and limits on our participation. The following is our guideline for donations and sponsorships.

  1. We must limit our support to causes that benefit many within the community, versus individual causes or needs.
  2. We will donate only where we believe we can have a meaningful impact.
  3. In order to maintain balance and neutrality, organizations tied directly to political affiliations or organized religions are not eligible.
  4. All requests for donations and sponsorships must be in writing (see below)
